This week I explored Witty’s Lagoon to see Sitting Lady Falls. It was another foggy day, and squelchy mud covered the path. Interwoven throughout the trails were small creeks and a variety of wooden bridges. The farther along I trekked, I became surrounded by both sounds of rushing water with few breaks of silence. The dense forest floor was like a green sea of fallen trees, moss, and fungus. Compared to Horth Hill last week, Witty’s Lagoon appeared to have more plant life and different kinds of trees. It was an exciting hike because there was always something different to explore and find. When I visit again, I would like to spend more time at the ocean and see what I can find there.

The river water leads to the ocean making Witty’s Lagoon an estuary, and a unique place to discover plants and wildlife. Although I did not see any animals besides ducks and a few dogs, I am curious about what I would find.

Although it was sunny the day before, the trail was still wet and mostly thick and sticky mud. I was not expecting it to be so wet.

Some things I found along the way:

When I made it to the bottom where the river meets the ocean, it was foggy. Branches and fallen trees filled the water and marsh area. Everything was silent except faint splashes coming from the family of ducks swimming around. The waterfall was bigger than I anticipated. After seemingly endless months of rain lately, the water was ferociously crashing down. It was so loud standing next to the falls I could barely hear anything else.

After reaching the ocean I made my way up towards the falls.

The waterfall was bigger than I anticipated. After seemingly endless months of rain lately, the water was ferociously crashing down. It was so loud standing next to the falls I could barely hear anything else.

After seeing the falls I started back to my starting point which included a lot of mud and weaving through narrow paths.

Along the way back, I found a painted rock. There was no message on this one, like others I have seen in the past. On my adventure next week, I will hide the rock for the next person to find.
